The recent end of marketplace subsidies has truly shaken the foundation for health coverage in our communities. Just six months after these subsidies expired in early 2026, millions of Americans lost their insurance and now find themselves wrestling with sharply higher healthcare costs. Enrollment in the US marketplace has already dropped this year, and actuarial estimates warn it could shrink furtherโpotentially down to around 16.5 million by year-end.
Monthly premiums have surged from $113 to $178โa jump of about 60%. This hit is felt most by older adults and families who once qualified for support, leaving many to question whether they can sustain coverage. Over half of those who managed to keep their plans are now making difficult choices, cutting back on basic household spending just to hold on. Many have shifted into more affordable plans, but with deductibles around 40% higher, the trade-offs are tough.
As someone who believes protecting lives means understanding the real challenges families face, these numbers arenโt just statisticsโtheyโre stories of neighbors, friends, and loved ones striving for peace of mind. My purpose remains steadfast: to offer clarity, compassion, and relevant solutions, so that securing a healthy future is never out of reach.
